Last year Iran exported about $7.5 million in goods to Algeria and imported $3.9 million of merchandise from the North African nation.

Pistachios, carpets, flooring, raisins, rollers for machinery and building stones made up the majority of Iran's exports to Algeria, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reports.

Over the same period, Algeria exported different kinds of phosphates and natural calcium to Iran.

Algeria has $173 billion in cash reserves and its GDP is above $183 million, which could make it an ideal trade partner for Iran.

The two countries renewed their relations in 2000 after about a decade interval.
