Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Sept. 19 / Trend H. Hasanov /

Turkmenistan is preparing to open a cement plant in the east in the area of Garlyk in the Lebap region, an official Turkmen source said today.

Turkish firm Polimeks Insaat Taahhut ve San. Tic. A.S implemented the project to build the plant with a capacity of 1.4 million tons of cement per year.

The enterprise will produce high-quality Portland cement, tamping cement needed for the oil and gas industries and sulphate resistant cement used in water treatment plants.

According to the project, the raw materials necessary for enterprises will be produced in the quarry which is located in the immediate vicinity of the plant. The production lines will be served by around 800 people. Technological equipment was installed at the site and around 2000 professionals were involved.

Most of the raw materials such as limestone, clay, gypsum and sand will be delivered to the plant from the local quarry by trucks.

This Turkish company commissioned a similar plant in the west of Turkmenistan - in the area of Jebel in the Balkan region in October 2011. Its cost is estimated at 180 million euro.

Turkmenistan has expanded the construction of social and economic facilities, roads and infrastructure. The growing volume of construction work stipulates the need for providing the industry with building materials.

A metallurgical plant, a marble producing enterprise and other enterprises have been recently built.
