Assets of Turkish banking sector increase

The assets of the Turkish banking sector increased by 7 percent in August compared to the same period in 2011, amounting to 1.303 trillion lire, the state agency for regulation of the banking sector in Turkey (BDDK) said on Monday.

The volume of loans granted by Turkish banks increased by 10 percent in August compared to the same period in 2011, amounting to 748.7 billion lire.

According to the report, the income of the banking sector in Turkey increased by 19.4 percent compared to the same period in 2011, reaching 15.185 billion lire.

he number of branches of Turkish banks increased by 26 units all over Turkey in August, 2012.

Currently there are 45 banks operating in the country.

Official exchange rate on Aug.6 is 1.7893 TRY/USD.
