Uzbekistan directs 1.8 million US dollars towards environmental protection programme

Uzbekistan’s cabinet of ministers has approved a programme aimed at protecting the republic’s environment from 2013-2017

Uzbekistan's cabinet of ministers has approved a programme aimed at protecting the republic's environment from 2013-2017.

According to the resolution, the programme will be rolled out in five main directions. These cover the creation of guaranteed and good habitat conditions and level of ecological security for the population and government, ecology of the fields of the economy, improvement of the technological processes and prevention of pollution of the environment with production and economic activity waste, development of legislation and a normative, methodological base in the area of protection of the environment and environmental management and development of regional and international cooperation on the improvement of protecting nature.

In total there are 68 projects in the programme. 89.39 milliard Uzbekistani soms, 1.635 milliard US dollars and 57.63 million euros are planned to be directed towards these projects.

In particular, 10.12 milliard Uzbekistani soms from the state budget are planned to be directed to the program.

According to the resolution, all extra budgetary funds of ministries, departments, fund for the development and reconstruction of Uzbekistan, bank credits, natural persons and non-governmental legal entities involved on a voluntary basis, will make nearly 79,27 milliard Uzbekistani soms, 1.247 milliard US dollars and 57.49 million euros.

In addition, the government plans to attract foreign investments to the sum of 388.41 million dollars and 140 thousand euros, including international grants in the amount of 3.52 million euros and 140 thousand euros which are directed towards the measures for the protection of environment.

The official exchange rate for June 3 is 2081,59som/$1.
