In 2013-2015 Uzbekistan will carry out the reconstruction of the Pungan - Namangan motorway in the Fergana Valley worth $265 million, Uzbek President Islam Karimov's decree released on Monday in country's media outlets said.

The Uzbek President's decree approves the technical and economical estimates of the project on the reconstruction of Fergana circular motorway (4P112) stretch running to a length of 75 kilometres in the direction of Pungan-Namangan.

The highway which is a part of the Tashkent-Osh motorway (A-373) connects all the cities of the Fergana valley (the area of Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions in the east of the country) into a transport ring.

The reconstruction involves replacing the two-lane asphalt coating of the road with a four-lane cement concrete coating.

A tender for the selection of contractor is planned to be announced in the last quarter of this year.

The project will financed by a $220 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and from the state budget funds equivalent to $45 million.

It was earlier reported that a programme of construction for the National Motorway of the first category worth $2.6 million is being implemented in Uzbekistan.

Four stretches of motorways on the routes running through Beyneu-Kungrad-Bukhara-Samarkand-Tashkent-Andijan, Bukhara-Alat, Bukhara-Qarshi-Guzar-Termez and Samarkand-Guzar to a total length of 1500 kilometres are planned to be constructed.

Currently, the total length of the motorways of Uzbekistan is 146,400 kilometres, and some 42,500 kilometres of that figure are the main public roads, as well as 3200 kilometres being international roads and 18,800 kilometres are those roads of national importance.

Some 20 international transport routes are passing through the territory of Uzbekistan.
