Kazakhstan harvested about 21 million tons of grain in gross weight in 2013, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported on November 27.

Agriculture Vice Minister Muslim Umiryaev told journalists about this on the sidelines of the Central Asian Regional Scientific Conference 'The state and problems of wheat production in the context of climate change' in Astana.

"According to the preliminary data, we have harvested 20.9 million tons in gross weight. The final data will be announced in late December," he said.

Earlier, the Kazakh Agriculture Ministry forecasted grain harvest at 18.5-19 million tons in net weight in 2013.

Kazakhstan is among the world's major grain exporters. In 2011 the republic had a record harvest of nearly 27 million tons of grain in net weight. In 2012 Kazakh farmers yielded only 14.8 tons of grain due to the drought which occurred in the main grain regions in summer.
