South Korea's Samsung Engineering by 96 percent has completed the detailed design of a carbamide plant in Sumgait, Azerbaijan, according to Azerkimya, SOCAR's chemical enterprises association.
Azerkimya told Trend Oct. 30 that work related to the future plant's foundation are currently underway on its territory.
"Delivery of large equipment to the plant's territory has already begun. Works on foundation and metal structures are also underway there," said Azerkimya.
Azerkimya also said it is planned to complete the plant's construction in early 2017.
"After that, precommissioning will start and commissioning of the plant will be carried out," the production association said. "It is expected that a contract to finance construction of the plant with the Korean Eximbank will be signed by late 2015."
The plant, which will be composed of the sectors producing ammonia, liquid and granulated urea, is expected to produce 2,000 tons of urea per day.
