Uzbekistan looks to turn its tourism sector from "seasonal" to "year-round"

Uzbekistan plans to increase revenue from the tourism sector, by turning it from "seasonal" to "year-round".

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave instructions to the heads of relevant committees, ministries and departments on taking appropriate measures to increase the income of the country’s tourism sector, during the meeting on tourism development, the press service of the Uzbek President said in message.

The plan includes strengthening of relations with foreign partners, effective application of new methods and approaches in attracting tourists.

“Tourism is one of the most important branches of the economy. It is necessary to improve this sector with effective use of existing opportunities,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The officials also considered issues on further expanding of the private sector’s participation in the development of tourism industry, providing benefits, training qualified personnel, and producing a range of new tourist products.

For about 1.8 million tourists visited Uzbekistan during 9 months of 2017, which is 17 percent more than in the same period of 2016.

The large-scale reforms in tourism industry of Uzbekistan aim at further development of the country's economy and improvement of living standards.
