Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has met with Georgy Poltavchenko, the governor of Russia’s St. Petersburg, who arrived in Tashkent on a working visit, the press service of the Uzbek president reported.
At the meeting, the sides expressed intention to increase the volume of mutual trade.
Mirziyoyev noted with satisfaction the activation of practical cooperation of Uzbek districts with the subjects of Russia, first of all, in the trade and economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres.
At the meeting, the sides discussed issues of further expansion and strengthening of the traditionally close and mutually beneficial relations of Uzbekistan with St. Petersburg.
At present, the volumes of mutual trade turnover between the two sides reach $200 million.
“The need for effective use of the existing potential for increasing the volumes of mutual trade and deepening cooperation among the leading companies of the two countries was emphasized at the meeting,” the report said. “Special attention was paid to the implementation of joint programs and projects in the field of health care, education and tourism.”
Georgy Poltavchenko, in turn, expressed interest in developing full-scale partnership with Uzbekistan in priority areas.
