The EU intends to use the potential of new transport corridors being created in the direction of Asia, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway, Henrik Hololei, the European Commission’s director general for mobility and transport, said at a press conference in Baku Jan. 30.

He said the BTK railway is an important corridor that connects Europe and Asia, and it has a high trade potential.

Azerbaijan is turning into a regional transport and logistics hub, and this is in the interests of the EU, he noted.

The BTK railway connects Europe to Asia, and shortens the distance and time of goods delivery, he added.

The creation of the new railway is also important from the point of view of ecology, he said.
