Turkmenistan prepares to harvest wheat

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has discussed preparations for the harvest campaign at a working meeting with the heads of the country's regional administrations, the Turkmen Altyn Asyr TV channel reported.

The head of state instructed to ensure the full readiness of combines, vehicles and other equipment, as well as elevators and storage facilities for grain storage.

Berdimuhamedov also pointed to the importance of organizing mutual settlements with tenants.

In 2018, Turkmenistan plans to harvest 1.6 million tons of grain from 760,000 hectares of land. Particularly, it is planned to harvest 450,000 tons of grain in the Akhal region, 380,000 tons - in Mary, 350,000 tons - in Lebap, 300,000 tons - in Dashoguz, and 120,000 tons - in Balkan.

The John Deere and CLAAS grain harvesters and tractors will be involved in the harvesting campaign.

In July 2017, the country harvested about 1 million tons of wheat.

Turkmenistan was previously awarded by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations for achievements in the field of food security.
