Cargo transportation up in Azerbaijan

In January-May 2018, 88.7 million tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan’s modes of transport, that is, by 0.9 percent more than in January-May 2017, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee said in a report.

According to the report, 80.7 percent of the total cargo transported in January-May 2018 accounted for private sector.

Thus, 62.6 percent of the total cargo was transported by motor vehicles, 27.1 percent – by pipelines, 6.2 percent – by trains, 4 percent – by ships and 0.1 percent - by planes.

Moreover, 779.3 million people were carried by passenger transport in January-May 2018, which is by 1.4 percent more than in January-May 2017.

According to the report, 87 percent of passengers were transported by motor vehicles, 12.8 percent by subway and the remaining passengers – by other modes of transport.

Thus, 5.5 million tons of cargo was transported by trains in January-May 2018, which is by 8.1 percent less than in January-May 2017, the report said.

On average, the daily number of loaded railcars was 327, while the number of unloaded railcars was 391.

Average daily load of carriages going in the northern direction of the railway amounted to 12,400 tons, in western direction – 4,800 tons and in the southern direction – 600 tons.

According to the report, 3.54 million tons of cargo were transported by ships in January-May 2018, or by 11.3 percent more than in January-May 2017. So, 53.9 percent of the transported cargo accounted for oil cargo.

Some 4.1 million tons of cargo were handled at the Azerbaijani ports in January-May 2018.

According to the report, 55.6 million tons of cargo were transported by motor vehicles in January-May 2018, which is by 2.6 percent more than in January-May 2017.

Thus, 677.9 million people were transported by vehicles in January-May2018 (an increase by 1.4 percent as compared to January-May2017). Some 96 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 4 percent - by cars.

Moreover, 99.5 million people were transported by subway in January-May 2018, that is, by 2 percent more than in January-May 2017.

Thus, 828,300 passengers were transported by planes in January-May 2018, that’s by 5.5 percent more than in January-May 2017.

Around 0.1 percent of air traffic accounted for private sector during the reporting period, the report said.

Cargo transportation by planes for the year grew 39.2 percent and amounted to 88,700 tons.
