Transit cargo transportation through Kazakhstan via railway up

Transit cargo transportation through Kazakhstan via railway has increased by 52 percent in the first half of 2018, said a message from Kazakhstan Temir Zholy national railway company.

During the reporting period, 1,861 container trains have passed through Kazakhstan and the volume of cargo transit through the country’s territory amounted to 180,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit).

“The growth in the volume of cargo transit though Kazakhstan was recorded in the following directions: China-Europe with 38-percent increase, Europe-China - 55 percent, China-Uzbekistan - 66 percent, Russia-Uzbekistan - 86 percent and Uzbekistan-Russia - 63 percent,” said the message.

The company said that 66 percent of the total number of container trains though Kazakhstan’s territory accounted for China-Europe-China direction.

“Seven container trains moved in this direction during the first half of 2018. During the peak period, in the fourth quarter, around 14-16 trains are expected to pass through Kazakhstan. The average route speed of container trains on the territory of Kazakhstan is 941 km / day, or 53 km / day more compared to the same period of 2017.”
