Iran’s Konarak County exports 18,000 tons of watermelons

Since the beginning of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), 18,000 tons of watermelons were exported from Konarak County of Iran’s southwestern Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Mohammad Saeid Ovliaei, director of the agriculture authority of Konarak County, told IRNA, Trend reports.

He noted that this product was grown outside the season.

Ovliaei added that the products were exported mainly to Turkey, Iraq and the Gulf countries.

"This year, 1,650 hectares have been allocated for cultivation of watermelons in the Konarak County," he said.

Ovliaei said harvesting will continue from mid-February to late March, adding that more than 36,000 tons of products are expected to be delivered to domestic and foreign markets.

Iran's Sistan and Baluchestan Province has an area of ​​11.500 hectares of land, with 8,500 hectares of it being used for sowing and the rest used as garden area.
