Iran plans to increase copper production by 400,000 tons this Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), said Ardeshir Sad Mohammadi, CEO of National Iranian Copper Industry Company (NICIC), Trend reports referring to Shata News Agency.

According to him, more than 260,000 tons of cathodes will be produced by the copper company this year.

Sad Mohammadi added that Iran's copper cathode production exceeded 245,000 tons last year.

"The program envisages the creation of balances in mining and the commissioning of new mines, so as not to waste concentrate production in the future," he said.

Sad Mohammadi noted that Iran's proven pure copper reserves exceed 22 million tons.

"Copper production is possible in the next 40 years, if 250,000 tons of copper is produced annually in Iran. But Iran hopes for a noticeable increase in the country’s reserves with the discoveries of new reserves," he said.
