As of May 1, 2019, 46,900 unemployed were officially registered in Azerbaijan (an increase of 26.4 percent over a year), 33.1 percent of which were women, Trend reports referring to the State Statistical Committee.

According to the report, in early May 2019, the economically active population of Azerbaijan consisted of almost 5,140,800 people.
At the same time, as of April 1, 2019, the number of persons working for hire amounted to 1,580,800 people including 896,200 people employed in the public sector of the economy and 684,600 people working in the private sector. There were 34,500 people working in the oil sector and about 1,546,300 people working in the non-oil sector.
Out of those working for hire, 23.1 percent were employed in the production sector, 6.9 percent of which were employed in construction, 7.2 percent in processing, 3.1 percent in agriculture, forestry and fish farming, 2.2 percent in the extractive industry, 1.9 percent in the field of water supply, cleaning and recycling, and 1.8 percent in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam.
According to the report, 21.2 percent of those working for hire in the service sector were concentrated in the field of education, 18.5 percent in trade and repair of vehicles, 8.4 percent in the provision of medical and social services, and 6.9 percent in the areas of government, defense and social security, 4.5 percent in transport and warehousing, 3.5 percent in leisure, entertainment and art, 3.5 percent in professional, scientific and technical activities, 3.5 percent in administrative and ancillary services, 1.7 percent in the fields of communication and information, 1.6 percent in financial and insurance, 1.6 percent in tourist accommodation and catering, 1 percent in real estate transactions, and 1.1 percent in other fields.
