Iraq is a good transit route for Iran to export and import its products while Iranian businessmen can create joint companies with Iraqi tradesmen, the Head of Basra Chamber of Commerce Majid Rashid Abdullah said.

"Iran is currently the second supplier of goods to Iraq after China, however due to recent investment by other countries in Iraq, it's possible that in next two years Iran will lose its position. However, working with Iranian businessmen is a priority for Iraqis if the industrialists establish join companies with Iraqi partners," he said, Trend reports citing ILNA.

He went on to add that currently more than 500 Turkish companies are established in Iraq while Saudi Arabia, UAE and Jordan are increasing the amount of their companies in Iraq as well.

"The cruel US sanctions are against international regulations and we are aware of it. Considering the situation, we can be responsible in marketing for Iranian products, including petrochemical and oil products," the Iraqi official noted.

"Iraq could be transformed into a transit route for Iranian goods. Iraq has the capacity to become a route for exports and imports for Iran," he added.

"After war with ISIS, Iraq started to import steel, metal and metal artifacts from Oman and other countries. We can import the same material with lower price and better quality from Iran's Yazd province. Iraq needs to import raw materials and the best route is Iran," he noted.
