Cotton fiber sales on Uzbek Commodity Exchange increase 4 times

In the first half of 2019, 284,300 tons of cotton fiber were sold on the domestic market of the Uzbek Commodity Exchange (UZEX), which is four times more than in the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to UZEX.

Putting and sale of cotton fiber in exchange trading is carried out by the enterprises of Uzpakhtasanoat JSC. The buyers of cotton fiber are domestic textile enterprises in the structure of the Association Uztextile as well as other enterprises that have the capacities for processing cotton fiber.

During the period under review, five varieties of cotton fiber were sold through the exchange. A significant part of the exchange market was occupied by cotton fibers of the 1st variety of 4th type and 2nd variety of 4th type; their share was 61 percent and 20 percent, respectively. The share of other varieties of cotton fiber did not exceed 8 percent.

In the first half of this year, the exchange market of cotton fiber demonstrated multidirectionality. In particular, from January to April, stock prices for cotton fiber increased from 13.5 million to 14.6 million soums per ton, or by 8 percent.

Over the next few months, the volume of the goods placed on exchange trades increased. Meanwhile, by June 2019, the weighted average prices for cotton fiber fell by 11 percent and amounted to 13.1 million soums per ton.

Through the exchange platform for export, 23,800 tons of cotton fiber were sold for the total amount of $37.3 million, which makes up 49.2 percent of the total exchange exports. The average export price of cotton fiber on the exchange was $1,564.7 per ton.
