Iran has exported $106 million worth of goods through the customs of Astara County located in Iran’s Gilan Province during the first 4 months (March 21 – July 22) of the current Iranian year (started March 21, 2019), head of Astara Customs Administration Rasoul Omidi told IRNA, Trend reports.
Most of the exported products consisted of agricultural, chemical, mining and metal products, as well as foodstuffs, rubber, cement, plaster, detergents, cloth, handicrafts, carpets, clothing, and footwear.
Omidi added that the products were exported to Azerbaijan, Georgia and Russia.
“Some 86,000 tons worth $64 million were imported through Astara customs during the specified period. Trees, equipment and electrical appliances were imported from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Russia,” he said.
Omidi said that 42,000 tons of goods worth $76 million were transited to Iran via Astara in 4 months. These products were shipped from Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia and Ukraine to Turkey, Iraq and the UAE. The products consisted of wood, oil products, cotton, artificial fibers, iron ingots, copper, etc.
“Some 58,000 tons of goods worth $245 million transited out of the Astara customs. Electric vehicles, cars, furniture, equipment, health care, construction materials, chemicals and agricultural products were sent to Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia and Ukraine,” he said.
Omidi also said that 5,200 tons of products worth $21 million were exported from Astara Customs through informal trade during the aforementioned period. Food, rubber and agricultural products were mainly exported to Azerbaijan.
He noted that 594,629 people crossed the border during this period. Compared to the same period last year, the number of people leaving Iran increased by 87 percent and the number of arrivals to Iran increased by 75 percent.
Astara County of Iran’s Gilan Province is located on the border with Azerbaijan.
