The export potential of Kazakhstan’s agriculture goods will reduce by almost three million tons in the coming 2019/2020 marketing year compared to the previous season, Trend reports with reference to the press office of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan.

This year, harvesting in the country began on time and, according to regional akimats (administrative offices), gran crops were harvested on the area of 15.1 million hectares which is 99.2 percent of total area of 5.2 million hectares, the ministry said.

According to preliminary estimates, the grain and leguminous crops can reach almost 19 million tons in bunker weight, which is two million less than the 2018 crop.

In total, 2.9 million tons of the harvested volume were sent to country’s elevators, 1.8 million tons of which account for wheat and more than 700,000 tons for barley.

According to operational data, almost 80 percent of the grain supplied to the elevators is food wheat, while 20 percent is feed wheat and wheat for technical purposes. In 2018, the indicator of food wheat was 93 percent.

In this regard, export potential of Kazakhstan’s agriculture goods will be reduced by almost three million tons in the coming 2019/2020 marketing year compared to the previous season

Furthermore, according to Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Saparkhan Omarov, the export strategy this season will be different from the last season, when the goal was to expand export destinations.

“This season, the main task is to maintain positions in the traditional markets for the sale of Kazakh grain, which are the countries of Central Asia includkng Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, as well as Afghanistan and Iran,” he explained.

At the same time, it was noted that demand from traditional importers will also decrease due to the high harvest in these countries. In this connection, it is necessary to ensure an average annual export of grain and flour to these countries is not less than five million tons.
