A subsidiary company of Kazakhmys Corporation LLC, which is the biggest copper producer in Kazakhstan - Kazakhmys Smelting LLC is planning on modernizing manufacturing capacity, creating of flexible production, and improving ecology conditions, Trend reports with reference to the press office of akimat (administrative center) of Karaganda region.
According to the Director of Kazakhmys Smelting LLC Adilet Barmenkulov, currently the structure of the company includes two largest metallurgical plants: Balkhash and Zhezqazghan.
“Within the framework of the strategy we are planning to implement seven projects. This are the construction of a new copper-smelting workshop at Balkhash plant, construction of a new copper electrolysis plant, construction of a new, second sulfuric acid workshop at Balkhash plant. Construction of a new workshop and modernization of equipment is planned at Zhezqazghan plant. New furnaces will be installed, but the smelting technology will remain the same,” he said.
He further added that the construction is to be started in 2021 and is to be finished in 2024.
“Workshop modernization will allow to increase manufacturing output. Automated system will be managing the technological process of Balkhash plant. All of the workshops will be connected by one system for information output,” Barmenkulov said.
