Gilan Customs in Iran to become export hub for tea, rice - governor

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov.26

Trend:

Governor of Gilan Province Arsalan Zare said that the province will become a centralized hub for export of tea and rice, Trend reports via IRNA.

He made the remark in a meeting with the Chief of Customs of the country Mahdi MirAshrafi.

Referring to the implementation of the Eurasian Customs Agreement by Iran, Zare called for valuation of exported goods which are being manufactured in Gilan.

“Gilan manufactures about 95 percent of tea and 40 percent of rice in the country,” said Zare, Trend reports citing IRNA.

To improve exports, Zare said the relevant structures are also in cooperation with Gilan Tea Research Center and the Rice Research Institute.

“Most of the merchants and traders transport these products from Gilan and Mazandaran provinces to other customs checkpoints,” he added.

Zare said that the launch of the Caspian Port at the Anzali Free Zone will help to boost exports.

He also pointed out to the lack of facilities at provincial customs checkpoints.
