Uzbekistan may strike deal with big European textile manufacturer

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 22

By Ilkin Seyfaddini – Trend:

A meeting with Sam Borg, co-owner of the Bortex group of companies (Malta) was held in Uzbekistan's embassy in Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg), Trend reports via Uzbek media.

The parties discussed issues of establishing cooperation between the textile division of this large group and Uzbekistan, in particular, in the production of clothing of leading brands in Uzbekistan, their export and sale to European retailers.

The Bortex company was created in 1964 as a joint venture with the Dutch company Van Gils and specializes in the production of high-quality men’s outerwear, being a supplier of leading European brands.

The company owns manufacturing facility in Tunisia and joint ventures in China. It also sells clothes in Malta, as well as in the Gagliardi chain of outlets in the UK, Sweden, Serbia, Russia, Poland and Algeria.

"Bortex is interested in cooperation with the fast-growing Uzbek textile market, including investing in new production projects, sending orders for sewing men’s outerwear to local manufacturers, as well as selling high-quality goods throughout the group’s chain of stores in Russia, Poland, Serbia and other countries", Sam Borg said.

At the same time, in his words, it is important to study the current investment climate in the country and the willingness of manufacturers in Uzbekistan to ensure quality standards of Bortex.

In order to discuss possible areas of cooperation, an agreement was reached on organizing a visit of a company delegation to Uzbekistan in March 2020.
