As of April 1, 2020, exports of Uzbek textile industry enterprises amounted to $455.9 million, Trend reports citing Uztextilprom.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, textile sector enterprises face export problems, primarily due to a sharp increase in the cost and delivery time, temporary closure of many shopping centers in countries such as Russia, China and Turkey, which are the main consumers of Uzbek textiles.

Despite the existing problems, the export indicators of textile and garment enterprises in the country have remained at a high level.

As a result of the measures taken, the export growth rates of the industry's enterprises have increased by 26 percent compared to the same period in 2019.

On April 3, 2020, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree "On additional measures to support the population, industries and business entities during the coronavirus pandemic".

Until 31 December 2020, established increase of excise tax rates for sales of gasoline, diesel fuel and gas to the end consumer, as well as for alcohol and alcoholic beverages producers will be abolished; zero rates of customs duty and excise tax on the import of 20 categories of goods - food (meat, fish, flour, sugar, dairy products, vegetable oil, eggs, onions, etc.) and hygiene products will be established.

The outbreak of the coronavirus began in the Chinese city of Wuhan (an international transport hub), at a fish market in late December 2019. The number of people killed by the disease has surpassed 95,000. Over 1.6 million people have been confirmed as infected. Meanwhile, over 355,000 people have reportedly recovered.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11. Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019.
