Georgian notes key indicators of economic cooperation with US

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

In recent years, the volume of Georgian exports to the United States has been constantly increasing, Trend reports with reference to the report of the Center for Analysis and Forecasting of Tbilisi State University.

As the report said, the dynamics of trade between the United States and Georgia is positive; however, in terms of both imports and exports, it still lags behind trade with other important players.

The new standard of trade between the US and Georgia, which implies a free trade regime, will take this cooperation to a whole new level, the publication said.

According to the data of 2019, ferroalloys were leading among Georgian goods exported to the US. Georgia also exported wines, fruit and vegetable juices to the US.

Unlike Georgian exports, US imports to Georgia are significantly diversified.

According to the report, a number of important projects have been implemented between the United States and Georgia during 28 years of cooperation.

From 1992 to the present, the United States of America has provided Georgia with financial assistance in the amount of more than $ 1.8 billion through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The range of USAID programs includes economics, civil society development, healthcare, education and other spheres.

In the 2000s, Georgia became the largest recipient of US financial assistance per capita in the Eurasian region. In 2005, one of the most influential foreign aid agencies in the United States, the Millennium Challenge Corporation, allocated $295 million to Georgia to upgrade pipelines, roads and municipal infrastructure.
