Old textile plant in Uzbek Andijan region flourishes thanks to private sector

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21

A new modern VBM Textile Group enterprise has been launched in Adijan city of Uzbekistan, Trend reports with reference to press service of the president.

As part of his visit to the region, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the activities of VBM Textile Group on May 21, 2020.

“The enterprise building has been empty for almost thirteen years. After its transfer to the private entrepreneur at no cost, the situation has completely changed. In particular, construction and repair work worth $6.5 million was completed, sewing and weaving machines from the US, Italy and Japan were installed,” the message said.

The enterprise was launched ten days ago. Enterprise will produce an average 11 million units of finished knitwear per year.

Export agreements were signed with CIS countries on the supply of products worth $27 million. To expand the geography of exports, negotiations are underway with the EU countries. The factory employs 1,200 women.

“Previously, all the cotton grown in the region was sold without processing, while the proceeds from it did not even reach $100 million. Now, as a result of the development of processing, products worth nearly $440 million will be exported this year. In 2021, this figure is scheduled to reach $527 million,” the report said.

VBM Textile Group plans to organize jeans production in Andijan, weaving and dyeing facilities.
