BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 3

By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

Farmers and fruit growers in Georgia's eastern Kakheti region are preparing for a bumper peach and nectarine season, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia.

As reported, during this season, about 35,000 tonnes of fruit are expected to be harvested.

From the total volume of the harvest, about 15,000 tonnes of peaches and nectarines will be exported, while the rest will be sold locally.

A special peach and nectarine harvest coordination center will open in the middle of June in the town of Gurjaani in Kakheti that will issue documents required for the export of the fruit via a single window system.

In 2019 Georgia exported 13,256 peach and nectarine. The country exported 10,777 tons to Russia, 667 tons to Azerbaijan, 150 tons to Ukraine, 114 tons to Kazakhstan, 78 tons to Slovenia, 39 tons to Iraq, 20 tons to Iran, 19 tons to Moldova, 18 tons to Belarus, and 0.4 tons to Qatar.

There are 11 fruit processing factories operating in Georgia with the co-financing of the Ministry of Agriculture.
