The number of online purchases in Kazakhstan has doubled from 7 million to 14 million in 1H2020, Kazakhstan’s First Vice Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Bagdat Mussin said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.

Mussin noted that this growth is associated with COVID-19 pandemic, during which the Internet and electronic government have become essential services.

“E-commerce development is a pressing issue in these challenging times. This year has seen its high growth rates. The number of purchases in online stores reached 19.5 million goods in 1H2020,” Mussin said.

Mussin also noted that the market analysis shows that during the pandemic, the structure of online consumption of citizens has changed as clothing and cosmetics purchases have dropped, whereas food, medicine and baby products purchases have increased.

“For example, purchases of food products via Kazakh online supermarket increased by seven times during period from April through June compared to 2019,” Mussin said.
