Free economic zones of Uzbekistan increase their production

Free Economic Zones (FEZ) of Uzbekistan increased their total balance sheet profit by 3.4 times in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period last year to 500.8 billion soum ($48.6 million), Trend reported citing nuz.uz news agency.

There are 18 FEZ in Uzbekistan in the first half of 2020, where 462 enterprises were operating.

The largest number of FEZ was registered in Tashkent region - four units, as well as in Bukhara, Jizzakh and Namangan regions - two units in each.

The volume of industrial production in FEZ increased by 64 percent in the first six months of 2020 compared to the same period of 2019 up to 4.9 trillion soum ($476.3 million), the volume of investments in fixed assets decreased by 33.6 percent to 956 billion soum ($92.9 million).

The first FEZ in Uzbekistan was Navoi Free Economic Zone, which was established in 2008. Today, about 30 enterprises with foreign investors operate in the region, and their number is growing every year.
