Iran to begin studies related to Sanandaj-Bashmakh route

TEHRAN, Iran, Sept.23

Iran is expected to begin studies related to construction of the Sanandaj-Bashmakh railway, and connect it to Latakia Port (Syria), from Kurdistan Province, said Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran Amir Mahmoud Ghafari, Trend reports via IRNA.

"The Bashmakh border is one of the ways to connect Iran with the Mediterranean Sea, so carrying out studies on the Sanandaj-Bashmakh railway is an important step," he said.

"Connecting Sanandaj – Hamedan railway to Bashmakh border is being reviewed. The plan was suggested to the Ministry of Road and Urban Development and it's waiting to be finalized," he added.

"Sanandaj – Hamedan railway is one of the government's important projects in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020)and it is expected that contractors would follow up on their commitments. The government is providing funding for the project," he said.

He went on t osay that so far, some $176 million has been assigned for the project.

The construction of Sanandaj – Hamedan railway has reached a 48 percent progress in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020), while some 78 percent of the infrastructure has been installed.
