BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 20
By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
The head of the Georgian Chestnuts Export Organization Levan Benashvili plans to open the production of chestnut flour in 2021, which is widely used in the manufacture of child food, Trend reports via EastFruit portal.
Chestnuts have been on sale at Tbilisi markets since mid-September. This is the very beginning of the chestnut harvest, which continues until about October 20.
Earlier, Georgian chestnuts were mostly sold on the domestic market, and in small quantities were exported to neighboring countries. But 3 years ago the situation changed, and private sector businessmen began to export a relatively small amount of chestnuts to Russia.
Since this year in Georgia for the first time in the past 4 years there was a high harvest of chestnuts, and up to 200 tons of high-quality chestnuts were exported to Russia. The price of a kilogram of chestnuts in the Georgian market ranges from 3 to 3.5 lari ($0.93-$1.09).
Also for the first time in Georgia, in the Kobuleti municipality, a chestnut processing plant was built, which processes from 3 to 5 tons of chestnuts per hour.
