Iran discloses volume of olive production

As many as 120,000 tons of olive have been produced in Iran since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020), Executor for the olive plan of the Ministry of Agriculture Jihad of Iran, Javad Mirarab said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Mirarab, while in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020), Iran produced 147,000 tons of olive.

Mirarab added that the olive harvesting continues in some provinces of Iran.

“There are 93,000 hectares of olive groves in Iran. Its 64,000 hectares are productive and 29,000 hectares are unproductive,” he said.

The official noted that it is planned to increase the area of olive groves in Iran to 98,600 hectares over the next Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 to March 21, 2022).

Mirarab also said that so, the production of olive oil in Iran will increase by 16,000 tons.

"The olives is grown in 26 provinces of Iran. However, Zanjan, Qazvin, Gilan, Fars, Golestan and Semnan provinces are the main provinces engaged in olive production, ”he noted.

The official emphasized that Iran is the ninth largest producer of canned olives in the world. Iran exported 795 tons of canned olives to Iraq, Turkey, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Malaysia in the last Iranian year.
