Turkmenistan has put forward proposals to strengthen the legal framework for cultural and humanitarian relations, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan’s State News Agency.

The proposals were made during a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

It was proposed to ratify the two conventions of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). In particular, one of them is UNESCO Convention against Discrimination in Education, adopted in 1960, which is the international document promoting the principles of equal access for all to compulsory primary and secondary education, higher education and equal opportunities in education. To date, 104 states are parties to it.

The second - UNESCO Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, adopted in 2005, which provides for such important tasks as the protection and promotion of various forms of cultural identity, the mutual enrichment of cultures, as well as the expansion of cultural dialogue in the world – is also proposed for ratification. Some 148 states are parties to this document.

In addition, it was proposed to join the Patent Law Treaty adopted by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in 2000, designed to quickly and easily monitor applications for patent documents that provide legal protection for industrial designs and inventions. At the same time, it serves as a tool for ensuring the protection of patent law at the international level.

Also, the importance of Turkmenistan's ratification of the 122 International Labour Organization (ILO) Employment Policy Convention, which was adopted in 1964 and 148 States became parties to it, was noted.

The document is aimed at increasing the level of employment of the population, meeting the needs of the labor market in the labor force and maintaining the balance of supply, as well as effective management of labor reserves and increasing foreign policy activities in this area.

Turkmenistan is a party to 161 conventions, treaties and other multilateral documents. During 2020, 217 projects were implemented together with the representative offices of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan.
