Trend:

Iran to increase the length of wharfs in Astara port and expand shipping lines in the Caspian Sea, said executive director of the Astara Development Project Alireza Cheshm Jahan, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

"Shipment of containers and refrigerator containers started regularly on November 2020 between Astara Port , Port Aktau in Kazakhstan and Astrakhan Port in Russia and soon Makhachkala in Russia and Baku in Azerbaijan would connect to this network, " said Jahan.

"Astara port is equipped with 30 plugs to provide power for refrigerator containers," he said.

" Astara Port Special Economic Zone is located on the coast of the Caspian Sea and has capacity to attract investments for construction of storehouses and logistic centers and has the advantage of exporting goods, re-export and commodity transit without complex formality at the customs," he said.

"Astara port currently has 210-meter wharfs and soon 75 meters more would be added. By expanding length of wharfs in the port to 285 meters, the operation capacity of Astara port would reach 1 million tons per year," he said.

"There are currently 10,000 square meters worth of warehouses and 5,000 meters worth of hangers in Astara port," Jahan said. "Some 10,000 square meters of warehouses are under construction."

"More than half of loaded and unload cargos in Astara port are exported goods. During the past ten months in the current Iranian year (started March 20,2020) about 185,000 tons of imported, exported and transit commodities were loaded and unloaded in Astara port," he said.
