The Head of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructural Development of Kazakhstan, Beibut Atamkulov, spoke about plans for the growth of the processing sector in the country, Trend reports referring to a source in the ministry.

"At present, we have formed targets for the volume of production of the processing industry until 2025 in the context of regions and spheres. The ministry intends to implement the instructions of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to ensure the industry’s growth by 1.5 times until 2025 jointly with local executive bodies," Atamkulov said.

According to him, ensuring the growth of the processing industry by 1.5 times requires an annual growth in the industry by an average of 10.8 percent compared to the previous year.

The minister noted that for 2021, it’s planned to raise the Physical Volume Index (PVI) of the processing industry by 5.8 percent compared to 2020. In ferrous metallurgy, the PVI target level for the current year is set at 105 percent.

“In 2021, Kazakhstan is expected to increase the production of ferroalloys by 10.4 percent, steel by 17 percent, and rolled products by 19 percent. By 2025, the modernization of the main technical capacities of the ArcelorMittal Temirtau plant will be completed with an increase in production to 4 million tons of steel per year, and the investments will amount to 1.3 trillion tenge ($3.1 billion),” he further said. “Meanwhile, production volumes of zinc will be increased by 18.6 percent, lead by 18.8 percent, copper concentrate by 9 percent, and aluminum by 6 percent.”

Besides, this year it’s planned to additionally launch 6 projects that will increase the production of ferroalloys, construction fittings, welded steel pipes, and the processing of iron and manganese ore. The large projects to be implemented are INDJAZ LLP (construction of a plant for processing iron and manganese ore), QazCarbon LLP (construction of the Saryarka ferroalloy plant with an agglomeration factory) in the Karaganda region, and others concluded Atamkulov.
