Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad talks this year's fish production plans

Iran plans to produce 1.51 million tons of fish and fishery products in the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad of Iran and Chairman of the Iran Fisheries Organization Nabiollah Khon Mirzaei said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Khon Mirzaei emphasized that so, 700,000 tons of fish and fishery products will be caught, and 811,000 tons will be obtained from fish farms.

The deputy minister added that 176 fish farms were put into operation in Iran in the current Iranian year. These facilities employ 6,500 people and can breed more than 51,000 tons of various fish and fishery products.

"The area of shrimp farming in Iran increased by about 15 percent, compared to the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021).Thus, 49,000 tons of shrimp were grown in Iran over the last Iranian year. While in the current Iranian year, about 60,000 tons of shrimp will be grown," he said.

The chairman noted that more than 18 trillion rials (about $428 million) was invested in Iran's fishing sector over the last Iranian year.
