Iran discloses volume of citrus fruits to be harvested in country

Iran is expected to harvest about 4.24 million tons of orange and mandarin in the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), said Zahra Jalili Moqaddam, Director-General of Agriculture Ministry’s Tropical and Subtropical Fruit Bureau, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Jalili Moqaddam said that according to the estimates, about 3.4 million tons of orange and about 840,000 tons of mandarin will be harvested in the country.

The director general added that an average of 20 tons of orange are expected to be harvested from each hectare of orchard in the country. About 2.1 million tons of orange will be taken in Mazandaran Province.

"In total, there are 300,000 hectares of citrus orchards in Iran. Of which, 178,000 hectares are accounted for orange orchards and 33,000 hectares for mandarin orchards. About 50 percent of citrus orchards are in Mazandaran Province, 12 percent in Kerman Province and 12 percent in Fars Province," she noted.

According to Jalili Moqaddam, Iran exported 215,000 tons of citrus fruits over last Iranian year (March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), of which, 161,000 tons were accounted for orange exports.
