Iran Export Confederation talks foreign trade projections

TEHRAN, Iran, March 14

The value of Iran's foreign trade is expected to reach $100 billion by the end of the current Iranian year (end on March 21, 2022) the Head of Iran Export Confederation Mohammad Lahouti says, Trend reports citing Mehr News Agency.

Mohammad Lahouti delivered his remarks in a press conference.

“The volume of foreign trade in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year was 149.4 million tons worth $90 billion, indicating 12 percent growth in terms of weight compared to the same period last year,” said Lahouti.

He went on to say that the total exports were 112.6 million tons of goods worth over $43.5 billion, indicating a 10 percent growth in weight and 40 percent in value, compared to the last year.

According to Lahouti, the main imported items were included basic goods, machinery, medicine, and medical equipment.

“China, Iraq, Turkey, UAE, and Afghanistan have been Iran's top five export destinations,” he said adding that “UAE, China, Turkey, Germany, and Switzerland have also been the five major importers of Iranian products.”

The Head of Iran Export Confederation stressed the need for diversification of exports.
