BAKU. Azerbaijan. May 16. Slovakia and Azerbaijan will create an inter-governmental commission on economic cooperation soon, Slovakian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Milan Lajčiak told Trend.
He noted that Slovakia and Azerbaijan enjoy relatively intensive political dialogue and high-level contacts.
“There are no any serious burdens in our bilateral relations that would hinder further development of our cooperation in number of areas. Slovakia perceives Azerbaijan as the country of economic opportunities. Exploring business potential belongs to our priorities. Generally, our efforts are currently oriented for creation more sustainable basis and building more systematic approach of our economic cooperation. Pursuing these goals, there are several areas we pay our increased attention,” added Lajčiak.
The envoy noted that the first sphere is to complete legislative basis between Slovakia and Azerbaijan supporting economic activities.
“Until recently, we were missing basic economic agreements. I have in mind inter-governmental agreements on economic cooperation, avoidance double-taxation agreement and promotion and protection investment agreement. In October the last year, during the official visit of the Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Ivan Korčok, the Minister signed with Minister Mikayil Jabbarov the agreement on economic cooperation that will enter into force on 16 February this year. Based on the agreement we will soon create the inter-governmental commission and organize the first meeting. This is an important step to explore trade and investment potential of our countries because it will help to clarify main vectors of economic cooperation we should support and work on,” said Lajčiak.
He went on to add that another two agreements are in a process of negotiation.
“We believe, the avoidance double-taxation agreement, will be finalized before the end of this year, and the promotion and protection investment agreement the next year,” said the envoy.
