BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 22. In general, 1 million square meters of carpets were woven in Iran, during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through July 22, 2022), Director of the National Carpet Center of Iran Farahnaz Rafe said at a press conference on August 21, Trend reports citing IRIB.
The director noted that about 35,000 people were employed in carpet weaving sector in the country over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
“At present, there are about 2 million carpet weavers in the country. Of these, 230,000 are insured. Taking steps to increase the number of insured employees by signing contracts is on the agenda,” he said.
According to Rafe, the 29th International Hand-made Carpet Exhibition will be held in Tehran during August 22 through August 27, 2022,
The official emphasized that after oil, carpet is the second Iranian product that the US has imposed sanctions on in recent years. Therefore, it is impossible to tell the exact figures related to the Iran’s carpet exports.
