BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. A total of 1.172 million overnight stays were recorded in Azerbaijan's hotels in 2021, which was 75 percent more than in 2020, Trend reports citing Azerbaijan's State Tourism Agency.

According to the agency, out of the overall hotel overnight stays, 77 percent fell on local tourists, while 23 percent – were on foreign tourists.

In 2021, 46 percent of domestic tourism overnight stays came at Baku hotels, eight percent – on Gabala, and seven percent – on Guba. During the reporting period, 84 percent of the overnight stays of foreigners and stateless persons were in hotels in Baku, whereas five percent – were in Gabala.

From January through June 2022, the number of overnight stays in the country's hotels amounted to 1.027 million, up by 47.8 percent compared to the same period last year.

In the period under review, 55.1 percent of hotel overnight stays as part of domestic tourism fell on Baku, 6.8 percent – in Gabala and Guba, 5.5 percent – in Gusar and Shabran, three percent – in Naftalan, 3.3 percent – in Lankaran, 2.2 percent – on the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 1.1 percent – on Shamakhi, 1.1 percent – on Mingachevir, 0.9 percent – on Shusha, and 8.5 percent – on other cities and districts of Azerbaijan.

During the first half of 2022, 79.9 percent of hotel overnight stays of foreigners and stateless persons came at Baku, 4.5 percent – at Gusar, 6.2 percent – at Gabala, 2.3 percent – at Naftalan, 3.1 percent – at Guba, 1.1 percent – at Shabran, 0.7 percent – at the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, 2.2 percent – at the country's other cities and districts.
