The State Statistics committee is working out a new state program on further modification of the state statistics system, designed for 5 years, the committee chairman, Arif Veliyev told Trend. The current program on development of statistics in Azerbaijan expires in 2007. Todays system of the state statistics in Azerbaijan is on 95% corresponds to the international standards, but its also rapidly modifying, Veliev said. This is a third program carried out in the area.

The state committee has fulfilled all the tasks it had, he assured. All actions assigned by the program are financed via three major sources of financing- state budget, TASIS EU technical aid program and the Swiss statistic bureau. 300-500m AZM are provided by the state budget annually.

Inter-sector balances are expected to be worked out by the committee within the frames of the future program. We have already submitted our plans for the next population register in 2009 to the government. Agriculture register has been held the last year, though it is only 97, 2% ready, Veliyev informed.

State committee also has plans to modify the national accounts and fix the financial account calculations, which has never been done before due to the complexity of the system. Nobody in CIS, except Russia is doing this, Veliyev said. If we would be able to make it in Azerbaijan, we will have all our national accounts formed. We planning to use the UN statistics department recommendations and Russian experience, he concluded.
