Azerbaijan, Baku, 14 February / Trend corr S. Aliyev / In January, 42 gas-related incidents, in which 16 died and 49 suffered injuries, took place in Azerbaijan (30% of 2007), Nazim Samadzade, the deputy head of the Azerigaz CJSC said on 14 February.
Six of the incidents were of the gas explosions and the remaining 36 of the coal gas poisoning.
In 2007, 151 gas-related incidents occurred in Azerbaijan. As a result, 60 died and 134 suffered injuries. Thirteen of the cases were of gas explosions and the remaining 138 were of the coal gas poisoning," Samadzade said.
According to Samadzade, the cause to the incidents was wrong exploitation of the gas devices and the ventilation problems in the apartments.
The issue on quality of the gas supplied to the subscribers has been recently raised. According to Samadzade, the gas supplied by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan republic (SOCAR) to Azerigaz completely corresponds with the standards. However, there are problems in the transportation of the gas.
"During transportation of the gas via pipelines water appears, which increases corrosion of the pipelines and decreases their carrying capacity. The issue will be tackled soon," Samadzade said.
