British Company to Commence Construction of Nabucco

Badalova/ The British Penspen company is preparing to commence the work within the framework of Nabucco Gas Pipeline International's tender which it won - provision of coordinating services on detailed technical plan on construction of the Nabucco gas pipeline, Penspen's marketing coordinator Sabrina Bagarella said to Trend on 8 April. Nabucco Gas Pipeline International signed the contract with Penspen in 2007.

The service to be provided by the British company include checking of the technical study, approval of the route, development of the projecting basics, hydraulic study, communications, geographic information system (GIS) and development of the tender sets for the next stage of implementation.

Nabucco Gas Pipeline International is the consortium of international partners on the development and construction of the Nabucco gas pipeline. The members of the consortium are Austrian OMV, Hungarian MOL, Bulgarian Bulgargaz, Romanian Transgaz, Turkish Botas and German RWE, each owning 16.67%.

The Nabucco gas pipeline will ensure the gas delivery via the Mediterranean and Caspian Sea to Europe via Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Austria. Nabucco will transport gas from Azerbaijan and Central Asia to the EU. The gas from Central Asia to Nabucco may be delivered via the planned Tran-Caspian pipeline. The Trans-Caspian gas pipeline will be extended to Azerbaijan, where the gas reserves are expected to comprise about 6trln cu m from the Caspian coast of Kazakhstan or Turkmenistan. The Mediterranean gas from Azerbaijan to the end of the Nabucco pipeline is delivered via the currently existing South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum).
