The China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPP), China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation (CPECC) and Swiss Zeromax GmbH will construct the Uzbek section of the Turkmenistan-China pipeline.

An agreement was recently signed in Tashkent between CPP, CPECC, Zeromax GmbH and Asia Trans Gas, the Uzbekneftgas national holding said.

Asia Trans Gas was established by Uzbek presidential decree in March 2008.

The company was founded to construct and operate the Uzbekistan-China gas pipeline.

Asia Trans Gas is the project's main employer and funding agency. The company's founders are Uzbekneftegaz and CNPC - each with a 50-percent share.

The construction of the Uzbek section of the Turkmenistan-China pipeline was divided into 13 phases after a decision by the Uzbek government, the holding said. Construction is underway.

Asia Trans Gas will complete construction of the first branch of the gas pipeline and KS1 compressor station by Dec. 31. The first branch is scheduled for commissioning in January 2010. The construction of the second branch of the pipeline and COP 2 and COP 3 compressor stations will be completed by Dec. 31, 2011.

The total length of Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China pipeline will be roughly 7,000 kilometers.
