The volume of gas injection into underground gas tanks in Azerbaijan averagely per day is about six to seven million cubic meters, Head of Azerigas JSC (sales and distribution of gas in Azerbaijan) Alikhan Melikov said on May 10. Since the start of injection in April this year, about 90 million cubic meters of gas were injected into gas tanks.
The Azerigaz is pumping gas to underground gas tanks for autumn and winter 2009-2010.
A total of 1.4 billion cubic meters were pumped into gas tanks in autumn and winter 2008-2009. Azerbaijan needs underground gas tanks to store gas in the summer and winter.
There is 600 million cubic metre of gas reserves in gas tanks from the last year.
There are two underground gas tanks in Azerbaijan - Garadag and Kalmaz. Kalmaz's active capacity is 1.1 billion cubic meters. Garadag's current active capacity is 500 million cubic meters.
