Azerbaijan, Baku, March 4 / Trend E. Ismayilov /
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources is considering new technical requirements for manufacturing transformer oil of TB1500 designed by the Yusif Mammadaliyev Petrochemical Institute.
This oil is used in power industry with freezing-point - 15º, Institute's Laboratory for Oil and Oil Products Standardization head Gasim Gasimov said on May 15.
"The normative document has been considered by the ministries of health and emergency situations," Gasimov said.
Technical requirements for this product were prepared and coordinated with Azneftyag plant producing this oil. These terms have been submitted to the power engineering specialists. Presently, they consider use of this product as earlier they used transformer oil with freezing-point - 45º.
Preparation of new technical requirements was necessary after SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) set the Institute a task to conduct research of alternative variants of transformer oil production.
Presently, transformer oil of this brand is produced from light oil extracted in onshore Balakhani. But volumes of oil production are reduced in this field annually. Freezing-point of products got from this oil reaches - 70º. But freezing-point of transformer oil got from this oil totals - 45º.
Oil with low content of paraffin extracted offshore Oil Rocks was chosen as alternative variant as a result of the Institute's research.
Azerbaijan produces oil products at its two oil refinery plants based in Baku with the total capacity of 20 million tons of oil a year. Both plants are part of SOCAR, which annually refines roughly 7 million tons of oil produced from onshore and offshore fields independently.
