Huge cascade of Azerbaijani hydroelectric power stations up electric power production

In January-May 2009, cascade of hydroelectric power stations produced more than 516 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to the projected 463 million, the Azerenerji JSC (Azerbaijan's largest producer of electricity) said on Thursday.

Out of the total volume of produced electric power 368 million kilowatt-hours accounted for Shamkir power station and the rest 148 million kilowatt-hours for Yenikend power station.

In May, the cascade produced more than 131 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to the projected 110 million.

The cascade composes Shamkir and Yenikend power stations. The first unit Shamkir was commissioned in 1982, and the second - in 1983. Yenikend hydroelectric power station was commissioned in 2000.
