New oil fields can be discovered in the Kazakh region of Kyzyl-Orda, General Director of JSC Turgay Petroleum, Alik Aydarbaev said.

"More fields can be discovered in our region, but perhaps, it will not be large fields, such as Kumkol, which by federal standards, is the largest. 100 million tons - it always was in the list of "giants", said Aydarbaev.

He said the preliminary results of the exploration showed that it is expected to discover mainly medium and small fields in the Kyzyl-Orda region.

"And such discoveries will be quite a lot, so the oil production in the region for quite a long time will remain the same. Today, the Kyzyl-Orda region produces about 10 million tons," said General Director of JSC.

An operator of development of the Kumkol field is Turgay Petroleum - a joint venture on a parity basis between LUKOIL Overseas and PetroKazakhstan (group CNPC).

The field was discovered in 1984. Turgay Petroleum operates at Kumkol since 1995. Recoverable reserves amount to more than 20 million tons of oil.
