According to the governmental forecast, in 2010 Azerbaijan plans to generate 18.92 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity compared to 18.6 billion kilowatt-hours in 2009, a source in the government said. In 2008 the index hit 21.2 billion kilowatt-hours.
Currently, the total power production of electricity is almost 6,000 megawatts. The bulk of power generation fell to the thermal power plants.
The decline in power generation occurred due to lower electricity consumption and losses in energy transportation, installation of electric meters.
In 2010, the country will continue the energy exchange with neighboring countries - Russia, Iran, Turkey and Georgia.
